Frequently Asked Questions

Lincoln Police Department

The Lincoln Police Department cares about keeping all Lincoln residents safe, regardless of immigration status. Still, immigrant neighbors may have questions about LPD. The following is valuable information for the community.

  • The Lincoln Police Department does not contact individuals to determine immigration status and does not have the authority to enforce immigration laws.

Similarly, LPD does not make inquiries regarding immigration status in the course of routine investigations, as outlined in the department’s policy on unlawful or improper bias in public safety.

    LPD Department Policy

  • No.

Past and future LPD cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement at any immigration enforcement activities is to ensure the safety of all involved and to assist with communication to affected families.

  • Lincoln Police Department wants to assure the community that filing a police report or accessing law enforcement services is not dependent on citizenship or immigration status and can be done so without fear.

LPD services are available to all who need assistance or want to report a crime. They are dedicated to making sure everyone feels safe and treated with respect when they interact with LPD officers.

  • This is a risk. When a person is detained in jail, their record in the computer system is automatically available to Immigration Enforcement who may take action.

  • Yes, you can record police activity. LPD requests anyone recording to do so from a safe distance and to not interfere or escalate interactions for the safety of all involved.
